* Sri Lankan Minister's walk for peace stopped by police

Aug 02, Colombo: A walk organized by the Ministry of National Languages and Social Integration was suspended by police today at Panadura.

Police stopped the walk for peace and ethnic harmony citing that mobs might attack the participants.

Minister of National Languages and Social Integration Vasudeva Nanayakkara also participated in the walk and addressed the people after the police stopped the walk.

He pointed out that the aim of the walk was to promote brotherhood among races.

The Minister said that this was the aim of the government and police were acting against it.

He said that although the police were there to suppress the "lunatics" against these motives, the police say they cannot control them.
