* Four suspects arrested in connection with the abduction of four-year-old in Sri Lanka

Aug 02, Colombo: A special investigative team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sri Lanka police Friday night rescued the four-year-old child who was abducted from his home on Monday night by four masked men.

The CID team from the Abogama area in Galgamuwa has arrested four suspects in connection with the abduction, the Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.

The child, Damindu Yasen Lankanath Kumara Ekanayake was allegedly abducted by the suspects after they visited his residence saying that they wished to meet the child's father.

The suspects who arrived on two motor bicycles have also attacked the parents and they had sustained injuries. However, the child was not harmed.

The police said the kidnappers initially demanded Rs. 10 million in ransom but later reduced it to Rs. 3.5 million. The father of the child is an owner of a rice mill.

Local media reports said one of the arrested suspects was a relative of the family. The police have not released the names of the suspects yet.
