* Narendra Modi sworn-in as the 15th Prime Minister of India

May 26, New Delhi: Narendra Modi was sworn in as India's 15th Prime Minister at the Rashtrapati Bhavan forecourt, today.

Mr. Modi took oaths before President Pranab Mukherjee at a colorful ceremony in front of the presidential palace, the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Around 4,000 special invitees including heads of states of seven SAARC countries, foreign diplomats, chief ministers of the states of India and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have attended the ceremony.

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay, Nepali Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and the Prime Minister of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom were among the dignitaries.

The leaders of the SAARC countries will have one-on-one meetings on Tuesday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sri Lankan President is scheduled to call on Modi at 10.30 am in the morning. Following the meeting with the PM, the President will meet his Indian counterpart President Pranab Mukherjee.
