May 20, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has decided to hold elections for the Uva Provincial Council in September this year, the government spokesman has said.

The Media Minister and Government spokesman, Keheliya Rambukwella has said that the decision was taken at a meeting held yesterday between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the representatives of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, state-run radio said.

The term of the Uva provincial council is due to end on September 26 and sources say government plans to dissolve the council next month and hold the election before the term ends.
