* Sri Lanka's Northern PC members try to commemorate Tamils killed during the war
Fri, May 16, 2014, 11:11 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 16, Colombo: Members of the Northern Provincial Council in Sri Lanka have tried to commemorate Tamils killed during the war.

Reports from the North said that Northern Provincial Council members have tried to light camphor at the main entrance to the Council to commemorate slain members of the LTTE.

Councilors M.K. Sivajilingam and Ananthi Sasitharan have attempted to light camphor at the entrance of the closed building in Jaffna.

Sasitharan is the wife of slain LTTE Eastern Leader, Elilan.

The police have however intervened and prevented the attempt to light camphor at the entrance to the Council.

The Chairman of the Northern Provincial Council has told the media that the councilors had not taken approval to light camphor at the entrance.

The government banned the organized public events to commemorate the slain LTTE cadres on the May 18 anniversary of war victory but said no objection for the families of the killed cadres to privately mourn their losses.
