* Sri Lanka considers concluding a trade agreement with Bangladesh

May 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka is taking measures to further enhance the bilateral economic relations with Bangladesh and has decided to form a study group to conduct a feasibility study in this regard.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiyutheen has proposed to appoint a study group to conduct a feasibility study to conclude a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) or a Preferential Trading Arrangement (PTA) with Bangladesh, with a view to enhancing bilateral trade between the two countries.

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh recently agreed to enhance shipping connectivity between the two countries to expand the bilateral trade and commerce.

The cabinet has granted approval to the Minister's proposal to from the study group consisting of representatives from the relevant institutions.
