* Sri Lanka Police offer Rs. 1 million reward for information on officer's murder

May 07, Colombo: Sri Lanka police today offered a reward of one million rupees to anyone who is able to provide accurate information regarding the murder of a police constable in Kurunegala.

An unidentified gang in the early hours of Tuesday had abducted two police officers, who were on traffic duty on the Kurunegala -Dambulla Road, and had killed one of the officers and injured the other.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said the investigation has been handed over to the CID by the IGP and the CID has already recorded over 20 statements.

The injured officer Ajith Weerasooriya, who is receiving treatment at the Kurunegala Hospital, has also given a statement to the police.

According to him, four individuals in a van have abducted the two officers and driven to the nearby Badagamuwa Forest Reservation where the policemen were stripped off of their uniforms and shot. The injured officer has managed to escape his abductors.

The deceased Police Constable has been identified as Chandana Sampath, 43, a father of two.
