May 02, Colombo: The Chinese government has agreed to grant Rs. 13.4 billion to construct a new building for the Out Patient Department (OPD) of Sri Lanka's main national hospital in Colombo.

The new unit is expected to ease the crowding at the Out Patient Department of the Colombo National hospital and allow the hospital to provide services to more patients.

The Chinese government has agreed to provide the necessary allocations based on a request made by Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena, the state run radio SLBC said.

The two sides signed the agreement in this regard recently at the Ministry.

Under the agreement a ten-storied building equipped with all facilities including a parking lot for the patients will be built for the Out Patient Department.

Secretary to the Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka signed the agreement on behalf of Sri Lanka while First Secretary of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce Shang Liu Ha signed it on behalf of China.
