* Sri Lanka national carrier congratulated on joining oneworld

May 02, Colombo: The British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, John Rankin today congratulated SriLankan Airlines, Sri Lanka's national carrier, on joining oneworld global alliance.

He said joining the global alliance as the first airline in this region is a testament to the carrier's standard and quality of service.

"Congratulations to SriLankan Airlines in joining oneworld, an alliance of 15 of the world’s leading airlines. I am particularly pleased that SriLankan Airlines is the first airline in this region to join the oneworld Alliance. This is a testament to the standard and quality of service it provides," Rankin said.

He said the UK has a long-standing relationship with Sri Lankan Airlines, whose fleet entirely consists of Airbus aeroplanes, powered by Rolls Royce engines and the relationship was further reinforced by the decision to expand the fleet last year.

"I wish SriLankan Airlines the very best and look forward to strengthening our already vibrant relationship," the envoy said.

SriLankan became a full member of the oneworld alliance with effect from Thursday 1 May 2014.
