* Sri Lankan President to meet with governing party Central Committee to discuss performance at PC polls

Mar 31, Colombo: President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa will meet with the Central Committee of the governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) to discuss the party's performance at the recently concluded Western and Southern Provincial Council elections.

General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Minister Maithripala Sirisena told a news conference today that the meeting will take place tomorrow at Temple Trees.

He said the Chief Ministers to the two provinces as well as the candidates to the bonus seats will be decided at the meeting.

Minister Sirisena addressing the media pointed out that the opposition comparing the UPFA provincial council election results with the results of the 2009 polls is not a fair comparison and highlighted that winning 51 out of the 57 polling divisions is a landslide victory.

According to Sirisena, the UPFA government was ready to amend its policies, strategy and working programs if found necessary after reviewing the provincial council elections results.

The Minister added that the governing party has recorded the victory at a time when there's a huge campaign by Western nations, Tamil Diaspora and their local agents against the government.
