* Sri Lanka police arrest 14 university students over assault charges

Mar 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka police today have arrested 14 university students in connection with an assault on university security personnel during an incident that took place last month.

Mirihana Police arrested the 14 Arts Faculty students of the Sri Jayewardenepura University on Monday on charges of assaulting a security officer and damaging a security post in the university on February 24.

The students residing in the university hostels have allegedly attacked the security officers and the guard post at the entrance to the University with stones and sticks.

A security guard was injured and admitted to the hospital and the guard post sustained damages during the clash.

The police have said that the arrested students will be produced in court shortly.
