* Three Sri Lankan media personnel get elected to the Western Provincial Council

Mar 31, Colombo: Three media personnel attached to a private electronic media institution in Sri Lanka have been elected to the Western Provincial Council at Saturday's elections.

The three media personnel were all members of the MTV/MBC Networks and contested from three different political parties.

S.M. Marikkar contested for the Colombo District under the United National Party (UNP) and topped the preferential votes list by polling 67,243 votes.

Susil Kidelpitiya also contested for the Colombo District under the Democratic Party and topped the preferential votes list of his party by polling 32,918 of votes.

Another colleague, Director of Sirasa TV, Susara Dinal contested for the Gampaha District under the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and secured a seat in the Council by polling 37,598 votes.
