Mar 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka's inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers' Price Index (CCPI) , remained unchanged at 4.2 percent in March 2014 on a year-on-year basis, the Central Bank reported on Monday.
Annual average inflation, which declined since June 2013, declined further to 5.7 percent in March 2014, from 6.0 percent in February 2014.
The general price level marginally increased in March 2014 compared to the prices in the previous month raising the absolute CCPI computed by the Department of Census and Statistics to 177.9 from 177.8 in February.
The increase in the index was mainly attributed to the 0.05% increase in food prices. The combined effects of both domestically produced and imported food commodities contributed to the increase in the food sub Index.
According to the monetary authority, core inflation continued its declining trend, reflecting the effectiveness of monetary policy measures implemented by the Central Bank.
