* Daughter of Sri Lanka's slain politician leads in preferential votes in Colombo District

Mar 31, Colombo: Hirunika Premachandra, the daughter of slain former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, has topped the ruling United People's Freedom Party (UPFA) list in the Colombo District with 139,034 preferential votes.

Udaya Gammanpila has gained 115,638 votes, and Upali Kodikara has obtained 47,822 votes. Roger Seneviratne received 44,011votes while Malsha Kumaratunga, daughter of Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga received 43,324 preference votes.

S.M. Marikkar has received 67,243 votes, topping the Colombo District list from the main opposition United National Party (UNP), while K.D. Lal Kantha topped the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) list from Colombo district with 45,460 votes.

Former chief minister Prasanna Ranatunga topped the UPFA Gampaha District list with 249,678 votes while Nimal Lansa is at the second place with 106,661 votes.

Harshana Rajakaruna topped the Gampaha district list from UNP with 51,018 votes.

Senal Welgama, son of Transport Minister Kumara Welgama led the UPFA Kalutara district list with 115,385 votes while Rohana Abeygunawardena, the brother of the Project Minister of Ports and Highways Rohitha Abeygunawardena, is second in the preference vote list with 51,539 votes.

Jagath Vithana received 29,920 votes topping the UNP list in the Kalutara district.

In Southern province, Former chief minister Shan Wijeyalal de Silva received the most in the UPFA Galle district list with 96,627 votes while Pasanda Yapa Abeywardena, son of Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena topped the UPFA list in the Matara district list with 76,870 preferential votes. D.V Upali of UPFA leads the Hambantota district list by obtaining 64,995 votes.

Bandula Lal Bandarigoda tops the UNP Galle district list with 32,030 votes while Chathura Galappatthi topped the UNP list in Matara District with 27,930 preferential votes. Senaratne Tennakoon of the UNP received 28,829 votes to top the Hambantota district list.
