Mar 30, Colombo: The Election Secretariat has started releasing results of the provincial council elections held Saturday for Western and Southern provinces.

The ruling party United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has won the Hambantota District in the Southern Provincial Council polls held yesterday with a clear majority. Overall, ruling UPFA secured 8 seats, UNP 4 seats and JVP has 2 seats.

The complete results of the Galle and Matara Districts are yet to release.

Mulkirigala UPFA- 37,464 (61.00%) UNP - 15,607 (25.41%) JVP- 6/334 (10.31%) DP- 1,825 (2.97%)
Beliatta UPFA- 32,393 (64.95%) UNP - 9,657 (19.36%) JVP- 5,521 (11.07%) DP- 2,173 (4.36%)
Tangalle UPFA- 42,575 (56.19%) UNP - 17,510 (23.11%) JVP- 12,335 (16.35%) DP- 3,055 (4.03%)
Tissamaharama UPFA- 54,731 (56.89%) UNP - 35,294 (33.46%) JVP- 13,665 (12.96%) DP- 1,551 (1.47%)
