* Sri Lankan university students protest against the administration of Colombo University
Mon, Mar 24, 2014, 09:02 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 24, Colombo: A students group from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka today took to the streets against the administration of the University.

The students holding placards against the university administration protested outside the College House on Thurston Road in Colombo.

The protesting students demanded that the university administration take steps to reduce the hostel fee from Rs. 3000 to Rs. 800.

They charged that the Mahapola scholarship received by most students has been slashed and now the students have been slapped with a high hostel fee.

The Arts and Education Faculties of the university were closed from yesterday until further notice due to a tense situation which arose in the university hostels yesterday during the registration of new students.

The university students have claimed that they have been notified to move out from the hostels and have been prevented from entering the university premises.
