* Sri Lankan President Congratulates New Chilean President

Mar 21, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has, in a message, congratulated the new President of Chile Michelle Bachelet who was sworn in last week as the country's next president after winning elections in December of last year.

"Your Excellency's return to a second term in office is a manifestation of the trust and confidence you enjoy among the people of Chile," President Rajapaksa said. "I am confident that Chile will progress into another era of enhanced growth and prosperity under your leadership."

President Rajapaksa also highlighted the "close and cordial relations" the two countries enjoy and expressed his desire to work with the new Chilean president to further strengthen relations.

President Bachelet is taking over as Chile's president for the second time. Her first term was from 2006 to 2010.
