* Sri Lanka's Northern PC to adopt resolution preventing security forces personnel from participating in school and civil functions
Tue, Mar 18, 2014, 07:13 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 18, Colombo: The Northern Provincial Council (NPC) of Sri Lanka plans to adopt a resolution preventing security forces personnel from attending school and civil functions in the North.

Northern Province Education Minister T. Kurukularasa has been quoted in the media as saying the resolution is still being processed and will be tabled soon.

Kurukularasa has explained that the resolution is being tabled since the security forces have no role in the educational aspects and the civil society in the North.

He has further noted that continuing presence of security forces personnel at school functions is not conducive for learning.

"Schools are governed by the Ministry of Education and the Central Government. If the law is broken in a school, the Police are there to intervene," Kurukularasa has said.

He added that the relevant resolution will be tabled before the NPC shortly.
