* Marxist party of Sri Lanka to launch the Presidential campaign on April 01

Mar 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has decided to launch the campaign for the Presidential election that is expected to be held next year immediately after the Western and Southern Provincial Council elections on March 29.

The party said it would start the election campaign from April 01.

JVP has decided to support a common candidate of the opposition this time also as it supported Sarath Fonseka at the 2010 Presidential election.

The common candidate is expected to abolish the executive Presidency within six months after his victory.

JVP has also set forth a condition that the common candidate must take action to maintain the independence of judiciary, media, police, public service and elections.
