Fri, Mar 14, 2014, 10:34 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 14, Colombo: Sri Lankan authorities deployed several police and army teams to apprehend an absconding suspect who shot a police sub inspector of the Terrorist Investigation Unit yesterday in Kilinochchi and fled.

The sub inspector was shot in the leg when a police team including the officer went to the suspect's residence in Dharmapuram, Kilinochchi to arrest him for his involvement in subversive activities.

The suspect, who was a temporary resident in the Indian Housing scheme for resettled people, is a former LTTE intelligence officer, the police said.

Recently a poster campaign has been carried out in the area against the military taking over the land of Tamils and the police were deployed to arrest the suspect who was allegedly behind the protest campaign.

The suspect had fled the area and remains at large.
