* Sri Lanka police come under attack trying to arrest suspect in North

Mar 13, Kilinochchi: A police team came under attack today from the residents in Kilinochchi in Northern Sri Lanka when the police tried to arrest a suspect, local media reported.

The police team was conducting search operations with the assistance of the Army in the area to arrest a suspect, who had escaped after shooting a police officer today.

An inspector of police has been injured and admitted to Kilinochchi hospital when the search team came under attack, media reports said.

Sri Lanka Police Department recently decided to arm all police officers with a pistol or a revolver while on duty as the incidents of attacking police officers and even killing by angry public has increased in the recent past.
