Mar 12, Colombo: Economic Development Minister of Sri Lanka Basil Rajapaksa says it is the government that initiated a program in 2010 to share the country's income with the people.

He has made this comment at meetings at the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Playground and Wills Park, Badulla on the 2014 Budget for the Rata Neguma National Development programme.

He said the blessings of all religious leaders will be sought for the program to be implemented within this year.

The program is to be implemented with the participation of the entire state machinery, including people's representatives and community leaders.

Rajapaksa noted that the President since 2010 had taken steps to consult all segments of society that include trade unions, agricultural organizations, chambers of commerce and private sector companies to prepare the national budget.

According to the Minister, the government pays attention on five main areas when allocating monies - identifying and giving priority to rural needs, planning them effectively, preparing estimates, giving beneficiaries to participate in the work and monitoring and maintenance.
