* Sri Lanka's main opposition to launch its election manifesto for PC polls tomorrow
Tue, Mar 11, 2014, 07:57 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) plans to launch its manifesto for the forthcoming Western and Southern Provincial Council elections tomorrow.

The Leadership Council of the party said the election manifesto for the two provinces will be released on March 12th at the party headquarters Sirikotha. The event will be chaired by the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya.

The manifesto was finalized by the UNP Leadership Council with the aim of firing the first salvo against the government at the provincial council elections.

According to UNP sources, the manifesto will address the issue of creating employment opportunities, developing the education sector and building provincial councils that are free of fraud and corruption.

General Secretary of UNP parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake said the main purpose of having a separate party manifesto for each Provincial Council is to educate the public on what each council will do under a UNP administration.
