Sat, Mar 1, 2014, 07:35 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 01, Vavuniya: A coalition party of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has decided to propose the government to name Mankulam as the capital city of the Northern Province.

The decision was taken by Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) led by MP Selvam Adaikalanathan at a high level meeting of the party held last week in Vavuniya.

Mankulam is situated in the middle of the five districts of the Northern Province- Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Vavuniya.

The distance from southernmost Vavuniya to Jaffna, the present capital of the Province is nearly 140 km.

TELO has decided to propose the Northern Provincial Council and the government to move the administrative offices of the province to the Mankulam town.

Previously, the Tamil Tiger rebels also proposed Mankulam as the capital of Northern Province.
