Sat, Mar 1, 2014, 10:56 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 01, Colombo: The Leadership Council of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) has approved the party's election manifesto for the Western and Southern Provincial Council elections.

The Leadership Council chaired by parliamentarian Karu Jayasuriya has decided to launch the election manifesto on the 12th of this month.

The UNP's manifesto for the Western and Southern Provincial Councils has pledged to provide employment to the unemployed and livelihood development programs.

The manifesto has also focused on the education sector and notes several measures to be taken to develop the sector in the two provinces.

It has also made special reference to three wheeler owners and measures to safeguard their interests.

UNP sources say that the party is hopeful that the manifesto will give a boost to the election campaign during the last few weeks prior to the provincial council elections.
