* Sri Lanka Navy arrests 17 Indian fishermen for poaching

June 29, Thalaimannar: Sri Lanka Naval personnel on Saturday arrested 17 Indian fishermen along with their three fishing trawlers when they were engaged in poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

Sri Lankan Navy personnel in a naval craft attached to the North Central Naval Command arrested the 17 fishermen well within Sri Lankan waters North of Thalaimannar on 28th June 2014, the Navy said.

The arrested fishermen and the trawlers were handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Mannar for legal action.

Despite the arrests by the Sri Lankan Navy, the Tamil Nadu fishermen continue to invade the Sri Lankan waters robbing the livelihood of the Sri Lankan fishermen.
