* Reinstated Mayor of Sri Lanka's southern city of Galle speaks of city's development
Thu, Jun 26, 2014, 09:28 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 26, Galle: The reinstated Mayor of the Southern City of Galle Methsiri de Silva has said that he had to face many challenges to get his mayorship back after he was removed from the post.

Speaking to media, the reinstated Mayor of Galle has said that he will work towards a sustainable development program for Galle alongside with his fellow councilors.

The ruling United People's Freedom party (UPFA) Mayor was removed from his post in July 2011 by the Chief Minister of the Southern Province, Shan Wijeyalal de Silva in a special gazette notification over allegations of fraud and corruption.

The ousted Mayor filed a petition in the Galle High Court seeking a writ order against the Gazette notification.

Galle Supreme Court judge K B Hiriburegama today made the Gazette notification null and void and ordered to reinstate the former mayor in the same position.
