* Sri Lanka's Kandy night race to be held as scheduled on June 28 for one last time

June 24, Kandy: Sri Lanka's Buddhist Chief Prelates of Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters of Siam Nikaya said that they would consent to hold the night motor races in World Heritage Kandy city on the condition that they would not be held in the future and the races would not be held in the roads in front of the sacred Temple of the Tooth.

The Chief Prelates (Maha Nayakas) in a letter addressed to the President expressed concerns over the move to hold night automobile races in the UNESCO World Heritage City and requestd the President to cancel the races.

The Kandy Night Race was organized by Carlton Motor Association. The secretary of the association Jaliya Jayasekara said that the night race would be held on June 28.

The qualifying races are to be held on June 27th.
