* Sri Lanka Buddhist extremists' rally in Kandy held without incidents
Wed, Jun 25, 2014, 01:05 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 24, Kandy: Sri Lanka's Buddhist extremist organization, Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) held an Adhishtana Puja offering in Kandy city today.

It was held under the patronage of the BBS general secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero. A large number of Buddhist monks and laymen participated in the offering today.

Political analysts say the BBS held the offering in Kandy to show its strength before the possible legal action against Gnanasara Thero who is accused of inciting anti-Muslim violence in southern coastal towns of Aluthgama and Beruwela.

BBS held its rally under the pretext of a religious offering. No violence was reported from Kandy.

Police intensified security in the city today and provided special security to the mosques.
