* Arrested Sri Lanka student activists remanded

June 22, Kandy: Three Sri Lankan student activists arrested by the police on Friday have been remanded until Monday (June 23) by the court for allegedly threatening security officers at the Peradeniya University.

Sri Lanka police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said the Peradeniya police arrested the three student activists including the former convener of the Inter University Students' Federation Sanjeeva Bandara on Friday.

Kandy magistrate remanded Bandara and the other two student union leaders of the Peradeniya University until May 23 when they were produced before him Saturday (June 21).

They are accused of obstructing the duty of the university security staff and threatening three campus security officers.

President of the Peradeniya University's Students' Union, Dimuthu Gunasekara and President of the Allied Health Sciences Faculty Students' Union, Rajitha Prasad were arrested along with the former IUSF leader.

Peradeniya police are conducting further investigations.
