June 20, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police have launched a special security network through-out the country today to prevent further communal clashes incited by false reports and rumors, national news agency Lankapuvath reported.
Inspector General of Police N. K. Ilangakoon participating in a media conference held at the Ministry of Mass Media and Information Thursday has said that preemptive measures have been taken as there were reports that certain extremist groups plan to provoke violence.
Police media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that there were plans to spread rumors among the Muslims on Friday while they participate in their religious activities to influence them to engage in various violent actions that would disrupt the peace.
The Police asked the public not to fall prey to the rumors spread by the extremists to incite clashes.
The police have arrested 55 people so far remanded 35 of them for breaking law and order during the communal clashes that took place in Aluthgama and Beruwala areas recently and.
