* Sri Lanka Navy arrests 7 Indian fishermen for poaching

June 20, Trincomalee: Sri Lanka Naval personnel on Thursday arrested seven Indian fishermen along with their fishing trawler when they were engaged in poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

Sri Lankan Navy men in a naval craft attached to the Eastern Naval Command arrested the seven fishermen well within Sri Lankan waters in the seas of Nayaru off Eastern coast on 19th June, the Navy said.

The arrested fishermen were handed over to the Harbor Police in Trincomalee for further action.

The latest arrest comes a day after the Navy arrested 46 Tamil Nadu fishermen along with 11 trawlers in two separate occasions for poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

Despite the arrests by the Sri Lankan Navy, the Tamil Nadu fishermen continue to invade the Sri Lankan waters robbing the livelihood of the Sri Lankan fishermen.
