* Sri Lanka Navy arrests 46 Tamil Nadu fishermen

June 18, Rameswaram: Sri Lanka naval personnel on Wednesday have arrested 46 Tamil Nadu fishermen in two separate incidents while fishing near Neduntheevu and Katchatheevu islet.

The fishermen from a village in Pudukkottai district and Rameswaram have been arrested along with 11 Indian fishing trawlers for fishing well within Sri Lankan waters on 18th June 2014 Sri Lanka Navy said.

Sri Lankan Navy men in a naval craft attached to the Northern Naval Command have arrested 24 fishermen in six boats near North of Delft and another 22 in five boats in the seas off Thalaimannar near Katchatheevu islet.

The 24 fishermen were part of a larger group from Jegathapattinam who put out to sea this morning.

The arrested fishermen were handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Kankasanthurai and Thalaimannar for further action..
