June 18, Colombo: The President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Takehiko Nakao arrived in Colombo Tuesday on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka from June17 to 19.
He began his visit to Sri Lanka by delivering the eminent speaker's address at the Miloda - Academy of Financial Studies, training institute of the Finance and Planning Ministry, on "Chance of Sri Lanka to be the Next Asian Miracle".
Later in the day Mr. Nakao met with government and Central Bank officials and development partners.
He is scheduled to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President's office today.
He will visit the Colombo Port which has been expanded under a recently completed ADB project today and on Thursday he will visit the Habarana Maha Vidyalaya, a school that received ADB funds under the Education for Knowledge Society Project to upgrade its physical infrastructure.
The ADB has approved a total of 176 in government and non-government loans totaling $6.17 billion.
Sri Lanka joined ADB as a founding member in 1966. The last visit by an ADB President was when Haruhiko Kuroda visited Sri Lanka in May 2010.
