June 17, Batticaloa: A massive protest was held today in Kattankudi Muslim town of Batticaloa District in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province over the atrocities committed against the Muslims in the southern coastal towns of Aluthgama and Beruwala.
A large crowd participated in the protest upholding brotherhood for the Muslims under siege in the Western Province. The protesters demanded the authorities to grant them the opportunity to live in one country peacefully with other communities.
The protestors chanting slogans demanded the government to ban the Buddhist militant group Bodu Bala Sena and grant security for the minority communities. They asked the government to arresting the racist elements that disrupt the pace and put an end to the religious conflicts.
Meanwhile the Police today obtained a court order from the Mawanella Magistrate's Court to stop the Bodu Bala Sena from holding a rally in the Muslim-dominated Mawanella Town.
The Police Media Unit said the court order was obtained to prevent any religious or communal clashes and if the organizers defy the court order the police will take action to disperse the gathering.
