* Pakistan Army Chief postpones his visit to Sri Lanka

June 17, Colombo: The visit of General Raheel Sharif, Chief of the Army Staff of Pakistan and his delegation, scheduled on 19 June 2014 has been postponed due to unavoidable commitments in Pakistan, Sri Lanka Army said in a statement.

General Sharif has postponed his scheduled visit to Sri Lanka against the backdrop of the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan Agency along the Afghan border, according to Pakistani officials.

The top Pakistani military officer was scheduled to attend the Passing out Parade (PoP) of the country's premier Army training center for Officer Cadets, Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), at Diyatalawa.

During his visit he was scheduled to meet the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, and Commander of the Air Force, and visit several other places.

A new date for the visit has not been announced.
