June 12, Anuradhapura: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa participated in several religious activities in Anuradhapura Thursday (June 12) before he left for Bolivia.
Several religious activities were held under the patronage of the President in Anuradhapura including enshrining precious objects in the Sandagiri Seya today. He paid homage to the most sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura this morning.
President participated in alms giving (Dan Salas) and also gifted books to school children.
President also inspected the development activities taking place at the Gal Vihara sacred land in Polonnaruwa instructing the officials to beautify the place while protecting archeologically significant places and preserving environment.
He later declared open the Mihinthale Aloka Pujawa.
Thousands of Buddhist devotees observed Poson festivities at Buddhist temples countrywide today to mark the arrival of Arahath Mahinda with the message of Buddhism to Sri Lanka.
Dana, Seela and meditation programs are being conducted at all temples including Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Mihinthale, Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kalutara Bodhi, Sithulpawwa, Kataragama Kiri Vehera, Bellanvila and Kelaniya.
