* Sri Lanka's ruling party appoints a committee to strengthen ties with rebel coalition partners

June 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the main constituent party of ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has appointed a five-member committee to resolve the brewing discord in the alliance.

The committee comprises the general secretary of the SLFP Minister Mithrapala Sirisena, the General Secretary of the UPFA Minister Susil Prema Jayantha, Ministers Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Nimal Siripala de Silva and Basil Rajapaksa.

The SLFP central committee, which met yesterday at Temple Tress under the patronage of the President appointed the committee five-member committee.

The committee has been assigned to discuss with the National Freedom Front and Jathika Hela Urumaya with regard to the proposals they have submitted for government reforms and the complaints they have.

National Freedom Front has set forth 12 proposals to the government and the Jathika Hela Urumaya has taken steps to build a national council to propose constitutional reform.
