Mon, Jun 9, 2014, 08:54 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 09, Colombo: Former Provincial Councilor of the United National Party (UNP) Maithri Gunarathna said that the extremist Buddhist monk leader of Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero threatened him since he appeared as a lawyer for the victims of a case against BBS.

He said that the incident took place at the Colombo Magistrate Court premises this morning after he appeared in the disputed case with a panel of lawyers.

Gunarathna said that he complained to the magistrate regarding the incident. The magistrate has directed police to investigate the incident.

However, when a TV channel inquired from the Buddhist monk about the allegation Gnanasara Thero denied the charges.

The case was against BBS for disrupting a press conference held by the Jathika Bala Sena in Colombo.

BBS activists led by Gnanasara Thero violently disrupted the press conference of the inter-faith movement held in Colombo on April 09 against the racist organizations including the BBS.

Gnanasara Thero threatened the general secretary of Jathika Bala Sena Ven. Watareka Vijitha Thero and insulted the Muslim priests in public. The incident was widely covered by media.
