* Move to oust Sri Lankan Minister from a key position in his electorate
Fri, Jun 6, 2014, 11:25 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka's National Freedom Front (NFF) media spokesman Mohammed Muzammil denied a move to oust the party leader Minister Wimal Weerawansa from the post of chairman of the Coordinating Committee of Kaduwela.

A proposal to remove Minister Weerawansa from the post of Chairman of the Coordinating Committee of Kaduwela was adopted unanimously yesterday at Kaduwela Municipal Council. Reportedly, 16 ruling party councilors of the committee voted in favor of the proposal.

The deputy mayor of the council who represents the NFF was absent at the voting.

Muzammil said that Chairman of Kaduwela Municipal Council P.H. Buddhadasa was a person who has no understanding about national politics. He highlighted that the NFF had no issue with Buddhadasa but it has a problem to settle with the persons who direct Buddhadasa and others to act in that way. He also said that the Municipal Council had no authority to pass such resolution.

Weerawansa, the electoral organizer of ruling United People's Freedom Alliance of Kaduwela electorate is at loggerheads with the area leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party P.H. Buddhadasa.
