June 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Meteorology Department today warned the Naval and fishing communities of the adverse weather conditions and requested d them to be extra vigilant.
The Department in a weather warning said due to the active cloudiness in the sea areas around the island, the possibility of sudden roughness of the sea areas associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80kmph) is high.
The warning issued early this morning states that due to an atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka showery weather is expected over most parts of the sea areas around island including the surrounding sea.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times over most parts of the island and heavy rain falls of over 100mm could be expected in some areas including the southwestern part.
The Meteorology Department warned of fairly strong winds along the western slopes of the central hills and requested the general public take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
