July 01, Colombo: At the end of April 2014, the total outstanding external debt of the Sri Lankan Government amounted to US$ 21.1 billion (Rs. 2.75 trillion), the mid-year Finance Report released by the Finance and Planning Ministry showed.
The external debt includes outstanding external debt for loans obtained to finance development projects and International Bond Issuances.
In the first four months of this year, the total debt service payments, which include both principal payments and interest payments, amounted to US$ 390.5 million.
Of this US$ 244.1 million was for principal payments and the balance US$ 146.4 million was for the interest payments.
Total estimated debt service payments from January to April 2014 are US$ 1.279 million of which 31 percent has already been made by 30th April 2014.
