* Sri Lanka Elections Department to reclaim misused public properties in Western and Southern Provinces

Jan 30, Colombo: The Elections Department of Sri Lanka said that it will reclaim public properties that are being misused by candidates contesting at the forthcoming Western and Southern Provincial Council elections.

The Elections Department has also decided to call a halt to vehicle parades, processions and motorcades from January 30th to February 6th, during the period of nominations.

According to the Department, identity cards will not be issued to candidates who fail to declare their assets and liabilities.

The police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is reportedly assigned to monitor the activities of offenders, who had violated election laws by committing violent acts during previous elections.
