Wed, Jan 29, 2014, 10:07 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 29, Kankasanthurei: Sri Lanka Navy today assisted the repatriation of 69 Indian fishermen released by Sri Lankan courts in accordance with an agreement reached by the governments of the two countries.

The Navy handed over the 69 fishermen along with 15 fishing boats to the Indian Coast Guard Ship "Vigraha" at the International Maritime Boundary Line off Kankasanthurei on Wednesday (January 29).

Sri Lanka Navy Ship "Prathapa", assisted by Sri Lanka Coast Guard vessels, CG 42 and CG 46, was deployed for the humanitarian mission, the Navy said.

The handover is a result of the discussions the two countries had in New Delhi on January 15 on the fishermen's issue.
