* Sri Lanka Ministry of Health to check factories of bottled water for quality
Wed, Jan 22, 2014, 11:45 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Health says that special teams will inspect all the factories that produce bottled drinking water in the upcoming weeks for quality.

The decision has been taken due to the Ministry receiving a large number of complaints against the companies selling bottled water that was not suitable for consumption, an official said.

The inspection teams will carry out tests to check the standards of water bottled by the factories.

Sri Lanka has around 100 bottled water factories and the Ministry has received more applications to open new factories. However, the Ministry has temporarily suspended granting permission to these factories due to difficulty in monitoring and regulating.

The operators of the bottled water industry of Sri Lanka need the permission of Food Control Unit of the Ministry of Health to start the process.
