* Live telecast of parliamentary debates suspended in Sri Lanka

Jan 21, Colombo: Sri Lanka major opposition United National Party (UNP) MP Ravi Karunanayaka today questioned from the Speaker on what grounds the live telecast of the parliamentary debates were halted.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa recently started live telecasting of parliamentary debates through a pay TV channel owned by state's telecommunication arm, Sri Lanka Telecom.

However, the telecast was halted today, the first day the parliament met for the new year. MP Karunanayaka queried on whose need the telecast was suspended.

The Deputy Chairman of Committees MP Chandrakumar Murugesu who chaired the meeting at the moment said he would direct authorities to look into the matter.
