* Sri Lanka Muslim Congress to contest Galle and Matara districts independently
Sun, Jan 19, 2014, 10:45 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), a constituent party of Sri Lanka's ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), has decided to independently contest the provincial council elections in some districts of the Sothern Province.

The SLMC will contest the Galle and Matara districts of the Province independently under the Tree symbol at the upcoming Southern Provincial Council election.

SLMC National Organizer Shafeek Rajabdeen told media that the decision was made by the party's executive board which recently convened to decide on how to contest the Southern Province.

The party however, has not made a decision on the remaining Hambantota District of the Province.

Earlier the SLMC said it will contest alone for the three districts in the Western Province in the Provincial Council elections expected to be held in March.
