* International trade fair opens in Sri Lanka's Northern city of Jaffna

Jan 17, Jaffna: The annual Jaffna International Trade Fair (JITF) opened Friday for the 5th consecutive year showcasing over 200 companies both local and international, exhibiting in over 300 stalls.

Consul General of India in Jaffna, Mr. V. Mahalingam inaugurated the Trade Fair today at the Alfred Durayappah Stadium in Jaffna.

The Jaffna International Trade Fair (JITF), which will be held from 17th to the 19th of January 2014, was organized with the goal to help business entities of various industries to make inroads into the peninsula which had long been considered as an area too risky to invest in.

However, after the end of the war in May 2009, the peninsula is considered to be amongst the most lucrative destination in the country for business investments.

The Trade Fair is showcasing industrial instrument, agricultural instruments and other Product & Services related to small and medium level businesses in Jaffna.

A large number of Indian companies are also participating in this year's Trade Fair to strike business deals with the local entrepreneurs.
