Jan 15, Colombo: The Leadership Council of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) has appointed a 12 member nomination board including two parliamentarians who previously refused to participate in the Leadership Council.

The nomination board is to finalize the nominations lists for the Western and Southern Provincial Council elections that are likely to be held in March.

The Leadership Council has appointed UNP MPs Sajith Premadasa and Thalatha Atukorale to the nomination board that will be headed by Karu Jayasuriya.

However, a local media report said that MP Premadasa has refused to accept the seat in the party's nomination board as well.

The other members of the nomination board are Lakshman Kiriella, Tissa Attanayake, John Amaratunga, Kabir Hashim, Ravi Karunanayaka, Mangala Samaraweera, Ruwan Wijewardene, Renuka Herath and D.M Swaminathan.
