Jan 14, Kandy: Ally of Sri Lanka's ruling alliance, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has decided to contest separately at the provincial council elections to be held soon.

Addressing a function in Kandy today, the SLMC leader Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem said the party it will contest alone for the three districts in the Western Province in the Provincial Council elections expected to be held in March.

Accordingly, the party will contest Western PC elections under the tree symbol.

However, the party has not yet decided on how it will contest the Southern Provincial Council elections, he added.

The SLMC's decision making bodies have held several discussions on deciding how the party would contest at the provincial council elections and selecting the candidates to contest from the party.
